Ku Shen, Sophora (Sophora Flavescens) is a perennial herb, a species of the genus Sophora of Fabaceae family. It has numerous up straight, branched stems densely covered with yellowish hairs. Leaves are pinnate, with 50 pairs of leaflets. Leaflets oblong-ovate or oval in form. The flowers are pale yellow, in a thick apical brush. Sophora blooms in July. Beans are 50-70 mm long, dark brown, small hairy, almost tetrahedral.
